Do-Now: Turn this in for a grade!
For each of the quotes on the board, answer the following questions.

1. What does the quote literally tell us about the characters and what they are experiencing?

2. What is important about the quote? Does it have a deeper meaning than the one it holds in this context? Does it contain any literary devices that make it interesting or meaningful?

pg 191: "So you protected yourself and loved small... He knew exactly what she meant: to get to a place where you could love anything you choose - well, now that was freedom."

pg 194: "'You got two feet, Sethe, not four,' he said, and right then a forest sprung up between them; trackless and quiet."

Assignments:
We reviewed the quotes on the board and the reading from 180-195, focusing on Sethe's motivation, the reaction of the community and Paul D., and Paul D's decision to leave. We also talked about what Paul D could have really meant about the "four feet" and the multiple comparisons of Sethe and a hawk.

Notes from 180-195 were collected.

Homework:
Read up to page 222 by Monday.
30 Word Maps due tomorrow for Vocabulary Quiz.
Beloved Part I Reflection due Thursday, February 4
